Please join us for the Newcastle branch Annual General Meeting & two course lunch. Our guest speakers include Kyle Scott, Director at Australian Business Lawyers and Advisors; and Daniel Walton, National Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union, who will discuss the future of industrial relations under the new federal Labor government.

Speakers

Daniel Walton

Daniel Walton was elected National Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union in November 2016. He has held the positions of NSW Branch Secretary, Assistant National Secretary, National Vice President, and National Campaigns and Organising Coordinator at the AWU.

Daniel is Vice President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions and sits on the Executive Committee of the global union federation, IndustriALL.

  Daniel is a director of AustralianSuper, the nation’s biggest superannuation fund, with over $250 billion under management.

He chairs the NSW Renewable Energy Sector Board and sits on the board of Chifley Services and the Migration Council of Australia. He is a member of the NSW Minerals Industry Advisory Council, the NSW Government Trade and Industry Advisory Committee, and the Federal EU & UK Free Trade Ministerial Advisory Council.

KYLE SCOTT

Kyle heads up the Workplace and Employment team at ABLA in Newcastle, bringing more than a decade’s experience as a specialist employment and industrial relations lawyer.

Partnering with HR managers, Kyle manages complex workplace issues, providing pragmatic and commercially- focussed advice that allows businesses to mitigate risks and make informed decisions. 

Assisting clients in all areas of workplace law, Kyle has particular expertise in managing complex terminations, enterprise bargaining, award compliance, post-employment restraints and employment litigation.  Kyle also regularly conducts workplace investigations for both private and public sector clients. 

His practice is a mix of advisory work and litigation. Where matters turn litigious, Kyle regularly represents clients in a range of courts and tribunals including the Fair Work Commission, the NSW Industrial Relations Commission and the Federal Circuit Court.

As a sought after speaker on a wide variety of workplace law topics, Kyle regularly presents to industry forums, and enjoys contributing to debate around industrial relations reforms.
