Jane Seymour – Barrister, Adjunct Lecturer & Acting, Commissioner - NSW Industrial Relations Commission




Jane accepts briefs in employment, workplace relations and discrimination, the areas of law she has focused on exclusively for 25 years.

Jane was the Associate to the Hon Justice Margaret Beazley AO in the Federal Court of Australia in 1992.  She commenced legal practice at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst), then worked as a solicitor for 15 years, most recently as a Partner of Gadens Lawyers (now Dentons).

Since 2011 Jane has practised at the NSW Bar apart from two year-long stints – first as the Employee Relations Manager of the retailer David Jones (2013 – 2014) then as a Commissioner of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (2017 – 2018). She has also held appointments as Senior Legal Advisor to the Sex Discrimination Commissioner’s Inquiry into the Treatment of Women at the Australian Defence Force Academy and Chair of Inquiries of Greyhound Racing NSW.

Jane has appeared in matters in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Circuit Court, Federal Court and Australian Human Rights Commission.  She has significant experience representing parties, and conducting, mediations and conciliations of individual and collective workplace disputes.

Jane is regularly sought for high level, strategic advice on workplace investigation matters.  She is a Senior Fellow of Melbourne University Law School, teaching the postgraduate subject Conducting Workplace Investigations.  She has been an Adjunct Lecturer in Workplace Investigations in the Masters of Labour Law and Relations at Sydney University Law School since 2014.   Jane accepts briefs to conduct complex and confidential workplace investigations involving senior executives and Board members.

  • Jane is one of Australia’s premier experts and speakers on workplace investigations, a full house is expected - members are encouraged to register early as places are limited. Bookings will close on the 21st of October.
