Paid Parental Leave – Increasing flexibility or increased complexity?

Amendments to the Paid Parental Leave Scheme came into effect on 1 July 2020. The rationale for the changes were driven by a desire to:

  • expand entitlements to paid and unpaid parental leave in relation to still born or premature births;
  • increase workplace participation; and
  • provide a more flexible approach to the taking of paid parental leave.

As far as policy is concerned,12 months on, it is time to review the updated provisions and assess how employers and employees alike, are managing the flexibility requirements.
